Levite Ministry

Ministry Objective (what):
Our objective in the Levite Ministry is to provide a place for people to serve the Lord through cleaning and setting up the church for events. We have many opportunities at First Baptist Church Woodstock to serve. However, some people are unable or uncomfortable serving in these areas. The Levite ministry allows people to serve the lay people and ministry leaders without spending a lot more time away from their families. We have several families that do this as a family service to the church. The great thing about the Levite ministry is its flexibility. This allows families to serve and spend time together because they can do it when it is best for them.

Biblical Support (why):
In God’s Word He picked special people to do special tasks. The Bible tells us that some have been called to preach, teach, prophesy and yes clean. We have many people that are called by God to simply serve others. The Levite ministry provides them the way to serve God with the talents and time He has given them.

Num 1:50-54
50 “But you shall appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of the testimony, and over all its furnishings and over all that belongs to it. They shall carry the tabernacle and all its furnishings, and they shall take care of it; they shall also camp around the tabernacle. 51 So when the tabernacle is to set out, the Levites shall take it down; and when the tabernacle encamps, the Levites shall set it up. But the layman who comes near shall be put to death. 52 And the sons of Israel shall camp, each man by his own camp, and each man by his own standard, according to their armies. 53 But the Levites shall camp around the tabernacle of the testimony, that there may be no wrath on the congregation of the sons of Israel. So the Levites shall keep charge of the tabernacle of the testimony. 54 Thus the sons of Israel did; according to all which the LORD had commanded Moses, so they did.”

Ministry Action (how):
People simply inform the custodial department that they want to be part of this ministry. They are contacted by phone when we have special needs such as Real Evangelism, North Georgia Christmas Pageant, VBS, Pastors One Day and many other events. They can also contact us if they would like to help out on a certain day. Then they come and do many different tasks such as cleaning trolleys, sanctuary, and hallways.

People Needs (how many):
Unlimited. We have multiple opportunities for volunteers.

Effectiveness:
The Levite ministry is effective with the personnel that we have. We desire to be more effective in recruiting volunteers in this area.
