We corporately give through normal offerings to the support of these organizations. Our partnership with these organizations goes further, however, in special offerings designated as the Annie Armstrong Easter offering and the Lottie Moon Christmas offering. Our generous people set aside a time for special offerings every year in December. The Annie Armstrong offering is much more than an offering envelope and an annual missions-giving emphasis. When people give to the offering, 100 percent of their gift also will be transformed into missionary salaries and ministry supplies. Our people may designate monies for these offerings anytime. Annie Armstrong: An On-Mission Legacy Few Southern Baptists alive today would have known "Miss Annie." Annie Armstrong, who dedicated her life to missions awareness and service. Helping to found Woman’s Missionary Union, she served as first corresponding secretary of the organization and is well known for her "corresponding." In 1893 alone, she wrote 17,719 letters. Each one was carefully written and conveyed then what still must be conveyed today - share the gospel at all costs, support those who do so, and do so yourself. Her strong advocacy for missionaries and her example of making Christ known to all makes her worthy of the honor of having the annual North American missions offering named after her. So, while you may not have met Annie Armstrong, the chance that you know a modern-day "Annie" is very real. She’s in your church. She’s the woman or man who rallies people to be on mission. Modern-day Annies are excited and passionate about missions, making sure that people are learning about missionaries and their work. They are model prayer warriors for mission efforts. They give their money willingly and sacrificially to mission causes. They place their hands and hearts in missions service, and live out God’s call to tell others both near and far of His saving grace. Throughout the year, and particularly at Easter, Southern Baptist churches focus on the work of missions in the United States and Canada. And, more than likely, an Annie in your church is helping keep the need to give in front of your congregation because she or he knows: More than 220 million people in the United States and Canada need to hear the message of Christ, and the urgency to tell them is greater than ever. Thousands of North American missionaries depend on the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering® to provide salary and materials support. Without AAEO funds, the number of missionaries appointed to serve would significantly decrease. 100 percent of AAEO funds go to direct support of missionaries and their work. As you consider how to lead your congregation to give, thank God for the "Annies" of your church. As you relay to people about the historical Annie, don’t overlook the modern ones. May all Southern Baptists catch her spirit and become on mission.
