First Express Ministry

Ministry Objective (what):
Our objective in the First Express Valet Ministry is to serve the unaided parents of pre-school aged children . For a number of different reasons: divorce, an uninterested (and usually unsaved) spouse, a working spouse……. many moms or dads are forced to brave Sunday mornings on their own. They get the kids ready for church, pile them in the car and head our way. It’s when they arrive that the First Express Ministry gets to work. The parent simply drives the vehicle under our preschool canopy and the servants of First Express assist in unloading the children; they then take the keys from the parent and valet park the vehicle. After service the parent returns to the First Express booth and the car is retrieved. What a wonderful service….otherwise these dear parents would be forced to parked a long distance from the church and haul the children in.

Biblical Support (why):
God, in many instances, in His word challenges us to defend the widows and the downtrodden. Psalm 68:5-6 shares about the father and caregiver that God is for children and widows: “A Father of the fatherless and a defender for widows is God in His holy habitation.” While there are only a few widows that we serve through First Express, there are countless others who need our assistance who on Sunday mornings have no other help. We are privileged to serve God by serving His dear ones in need.

Ministry Action (how):
Key chains are distributed to the parents who qualify for First Express valet service. These key chains will have a number on them that allow us to match a set of keys to the owner and to the vehicle. Qualification for the ministry is as follows: 1. you must have at least one preschool age child; 2. you must be unaccompanied by another adult. The parent simply pulls up under the preschool overhang, gets her children out of the vehicle (often times with the assistance of a First Express servant), hand the keys to the First Express servant and then go to church. The First Express servant then parks the vehicle in the designated First Express parking area. After services, the parent simply returns to the First Express booth and the vehicle is returned to them.

People Needs (how many):
We currently have 10 men who serve in this ministry. We need additional manpower as these men are spread pretty thin. Ideally, we desire 30 individuals (men or women) who serve consistently and dependably in the First Express Valet Ministry.

Effectiveness:
The First Express Valet Ministry is extremely effective and is helping mothers of preschoolers in huge ways. The benefits as we help these parents fight all obstacles may not be found out until we get to heaven.
